TRAILS Appeals
Have you received a letter from the Colorado Department of Human Services (DHS) saying you have a founded finding against you for child or neglect? We’re here to help!
Colorado maintains a database called TRAILS that keeps track of reports of child abuse
and neglect. This database includes the names of individuals who are found to be
responsible for child or neglect. While this database does not show up on a typical
background check, if you volunteer or work with children, your employer likely runs a
separate TRAILS background check, which can impact your ability to work or volunteer
with children.
You do have the right to appeal the finding to the Child and Adult Mistreatment Dispute
Review Section (CAMDRS). If you would like to appeal, you need to act quickly, as
there are strict deadlines for filing an appeal.
We have been successful in getting a number of TRAILS entries expunged from the
database. If you need help filing a TRAILS appeal, give us a call today!
